New Faces on Campus

Mr. Ryan Snitynsky, Instructor, Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences – July 1, 2020

Ryan began at the Agricultural Campus in September 2019 and has since helped to fill in several positions left vacant by retiring personnel. His current course responsibilities include general chemistry (CHMA 1000 & 1001), organic chemistry (CHMA 2000), and food chemistry (CHMA 3011). He has previously held positions at several educational institutions in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Ms. Tasha Richard, Instructor, Business & Social Sciences – Aug 12, 2020

Tasha Richard joined the Department of Business and Social Sciences in a Tenure Track position after two years in limited term appointments in the Department. Tasha’s research focuses on the intersection of entrepreneurship policy, gender and education. She recently was awarded A Belong Fellowship to study indigenous ways of knowing entrepreneurship with a focus on gender and food security. Tasha completed her commerce degree at McGill University, her MBA at Saint Mary's University and is currently a PhD candidate at Saint Mary's University. Her dissertation examines the impact of federal government policy on women entrepreneurs.

Dr Younes Miar, Assistant Professor, Animal Science & Aquaculture – Aug 17, 2020

Dr. Miar has over 15 years of research experience in computational genomics and statistical modeling. His research has established on long-term goal of building a vibrant laboratory that develops novel genomics and breeding tools to study the genome biology and evolution of livestock species. He was successful in securing more than $3.2 million research grants as Principal Investigator including an NSERC Discovery grant, an NSERC Collaborative Research and Development grant, Mitacs Accelerate grants, an NSERC Early Career Researcher Supplement Award (2019), and a Mink Research Partnership grant, with additional $2.6 million funds under review and preparation as principal investigator. Dr. Miar is also recipient of a Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture Early Career Research Excellence Award (2019).

 

Dr Ghader Manafiazar, Assistant Professor, Animal Science & Aquaculture – July 1, 2020

Ghader has notable achievements and experience including 20 years of research and eight years of teaching in Canada and abroad. His research is mainly focused on feed efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions and fitness traits in livestock using innovative techniques such as nutrition, genetics/genomics and machine learning.

Ms. Patricia Cove, Instructor, Business & Social Sciences – Aug 17, 2020
Dr. Patricia Cove is originally from Nova Scotia, but has worked across Canada teaching English and conducting research, most recently as a SSHRC postdoctoral fellow at the University of Victoria, where she prepared her book, Italian Politics and Nineteenth-Century British Literature and Culture (Edinburgh, 2019). Patricia completed her PhD in English at Dalhousie and has 10 years of experience teaching English. She began working at the AC in 2018 as a Writing Advisor and member of the Student Success team. Patricia also taught in the Department of Business and Social Sciences beginning in 2018. She loves the beach and is happy to be settled back on the East Coast!

Dr Gumataw Abebe, Assistant Professor, Business & Social Sciences – July 1, 2020

Dr. Gumataw Kifle Abebe received his Ph.D. in Agribusiness Management in 2013 from Wageningen University, The Netherlands. He has several years of experience in teaching and research in two prominent universities. Before moving to Truro, Dr. Abebe held a faculty position at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, for six years. His research interests are in agri-food value chains. Dr. Abebe is married and has three children.

 

Mr. Greg Nazaire, Instructor (Term), Business & Social Sciences – January 1, 2021.

Greg Nazaire has been appointed in a new Pre-Business and Finance Instructor position for a three-year term, beginning January 1, 2021. The appointment is a pilot and is shared between the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Management, and the College of Continuing Education, although his primary Faculty will be the Faculty of Agriculture.

This is an exciting development for the Faculty and the University with Greg looking to work in the following areas:

  • DalOpen— provide input from the Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Management perspectives on programming, business development, community connections, marketing, registration processes and transfer credits. This will also connect with our Extended Learning Team.
  • University Access Advisory Board—participate on the advisory board, tasked with assessing issues around university access and fund raising for bursaries into university access programming.
  • Programming innovation—participate actively in innovation discussions around university access programming that will be offered through FoM, Agriculture and DalOpen.
  • Prior Learning and Achievement Review (PLAR)— work collaboratively with the project manager in testing a PLAR framework for use for university access processes across the Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Management.
  • Micro-credentialing - work collaboratively with the Faculty of Agriculture and the project manager for micro-credentialing within the College of Continuing Education.
