The Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food wrapped up two days of testimony in Halifax on Tuesday hearing from witnesses on the potential impact of the effects of climate change on the agriculture, agri-food and forestry sectors.
The committee’s current undertaking, a study on the effects of climate change on Canada’s agriculture, agri-food and forestry sectors, touches on issues such as rising sea levels and changes in weather patterns. It will also address Canada’s efforts to meet its greenhouse gas emissions reduction commitments.
Members of the Faculty of Agriculture who testified in front of the committee included Lord Abbey, Assistant Professor, Amenity Horticulture, Department of Plant, Food and Environmental Sciences; Samuel K. Asiedu, Professor, Department of Plant, Food and Environmental Sciences and David Burton, Professor, Department of Plant, Food and Environmental Sciences
The Committee protects the livelihoods of farmers and forestry professionals and spent the day on the Agricultural Campus on Wednesday, October 4th.
While on campus, senators had a chance to tour various labs and meet with researches and students.
