Chris Ross earns ACAA Player of the Year Award

The Dalhousie Agricultural Campus Rams snagged second place this past weekend in ACAA Badminton team competition with Chris Ross capturing the ACAA title in Men’s Singles. 

Chris, a dual athlete in Soccer and Badminton also won the ACAA Player of the Year award, with his coach, Richard Bennicke earning Coach of the Year honours.

Chris, a native of Lower Harmony, will be competing in the CCAA National Badminton Championships at Georgian College February 28.

“Chris is a fierce competitor in all sports, a very talented athlete, an exceptional student and a person we are very proud to have represent Dalhousie Agricultural Campus varsity programs, explained Director of Athletic  Services Judy Smith.

“Chris is a team leader in all aspects,” she added. “He assists other team members with skill development, encourages them to compete and practice hard and have fun at the same time.”

Chris helps to coach and teach student-athletes at his former high school, Cobequid Educational Centre in Truro and continues to compete in Nova Scotia Badminton Association events when his busy schedule permits.

Chris’ sport highlights:

·         Ranked 2nd Provincially

·         2009-2011 NSSAF (high school federation) Mens Singles Champion all three years

·         2011-2012 Nova Scotia (NSBA) Male Badminton Athlete of the Year

·         2011 and 2012 Atlantic Junior Doubles Champion ; 2011 Singles Runner-up

·         2011-2012 CCAA Academic All-Canadian (soccer All-Conference)

·         2012 NSBA #1 Ranked Doubles , Mixed and Singles

·         2012-2013 ACAA Men’s Badminton Player of the Year, ACAA Athlete of the Week and CCAA Badminton Athlete of the Month

·         Chris has not lost a singles match in the 2012-2013 competitive season within the ACAA

·         2009  and 2012 Junior Provincial Singles Champion

·         2012 Triple Crown Champion ( Antigonish, Sackville)

·         NSSAF Team Champions (2010)
