Your First Days and Weeks

First days/weeks

You should be provided with a detailed onboarding plan by your unit. In the first few days you can expect your supervisor to introduce you to the team, include you in relevant email groups and teams, broadly explain the job and working teams, clarify the benefits and entitlements and plan meetings with working teams.

First few weeks

Over the first few weeks you can expect to have further clarity of your role and performance expectations, and how the probation period will be administered.

  • Your supervisor should prepare an ACHIEVE plan specifying the deliverables and development plan. The ACHIEVE program [login required] supports Dalhousie employee achievement, development and success through meaningful work-related conversations. Departmental priorities will be shared, and tasks will gradually start to be assigned. Necessary learning, which will be required to do the role, will also be assigned/planned.
  • Dalhousie has a set of Core and Leadership Competencies [login required] for setting expectations. Competencies are a set of defined behaviours that provide a structured guide for enabling the identification, evaluation and development of the behaviours in employees and leaders. They may form part of your performance development conversations.

Brand Guidelines

The Brand Guidelines [login required] are your map to applying the Dalhousie brand consistently across all platforms. They are both a reference and an educational tool, which will ensure your Dalhousie materials align with the brand standards, and reflect and enhance Dalhousie's reputation.
