Research area two: nanostructures

Reduction of losses in metamaterials containing inclusions in the form of quantum dots is the objective. Analytical and numerical approaches will investigate configurations of passive and active elements with the goal of designing lossless metamaterials for practical nanodevices. Processes will be investigated that can engineer nanostructures with desired combinations of properties not found in nature. Multidisciplinary collaboration between chemists, physicists, and engineers is expected to bring such nanophotonic structures closer to real-world applications in switching and light energy collection.
