NP Clinical Preceptor

Your role as preceptor is a critical component of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) program and you model the role of the Nurse Practitioner

NP students will work closely with you and learn from your guidance and example. The development of advanced skills and clinical judgment necessary to become Nurse Practitioners will evolve under your supervision.

Process:

  1. Inform your manager that you would like to precept a Nurse Practitioner student. Be clear about the number of hours you can commit and the semester (Fall or Winter) in which you will be available.
  2. Your manager will be contacted on an ongoing basis requesting student placements.
  3. When your manager confirms your availability to precept a student, you will be notified by the Dalhousie course instructor of the student’s name.  Only at that point will the student contact you about the placement.
