Introducing ACCOMMODATE ‑ a New Software Application to Support Student Accommodations

Posted by Student Accessibility Centre on May 12, 2022 in General Announcements

Managing student accommodations is getting a refresh. Beginning in the summer term 2022, the Student Accessibility Centre (Halifax) and Student Success Centre (Truro) will use a new software application – appropriately named Accommodate – to streamline student accommodations.

This software will help all users (students, faculty, and staff) more effectively and efficiently manage the student accommodation process.

What's different?

For the first time, students will have a seamless experience requesting accommodations, uploading documentation, accessing peer course notes, and scheduling an accommodated exam all in one single environment. Students can also access all formal accommodation letters in Accommodate. This software will also enable faculty to receive letters of notification and identify testing details all in one single environment.

What's the same?

Processes, largely, remain the same. More importantly, service levels and our commitment to accessibility remain the same.

What’s next?

There will be minor changes in the transition to using Accommodate. To support users in this change, the Centres are preparing user training and orientation materials. Also, implementing in the Summer 2022 term will facilitate user feedback to work through any improvement opportunities prior to the start of the high-volume Fall 2022 term.

Project updates will be shared through the Accessibility Centre’s website: https://www.dal.ca/campus_life/academic-support/accessibility/accommodate-software.html
