Pets of Dalhousie: Meet Rex

Posted by Communications, Marketing and Creative Services on June 24, 2021 in Community Highlights

Rex is a leopard gecko who lives with James Wilson, video conferencing coordinator in Academic Technology Services.

Name: Rex (I'm pretty sure my son named him after the T-Rex dinosaur, but we did listen to a fair bit of T. Rex when he was little so maybe subconsciously the name comes from the glam rock band)

Nickname: Fat-Tail (he stores fat in his tail)

Species/breed: Leopard Gecko

Age: >1 year old

Fave food: Rex mostly eats crickets (which means we always have a dozen pet crickets too), and he loves mealworms

Special tricks: When he sees my son looking at him, he will come over to him and it looks like he smiles, then licks the glass of his tank.  When we hum the theme to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, he seems to like that so it makes me wonder where he came from.

Best quality: He's such a prankster because he always poos in the hardest places to access

Social media platform or handle, if available: Rex wants to go on TikTok but I tell him he's too young and that it will melt his brain
