SuperNOVA Video Spotlight: Polaris Explores Halifax

Posted by SuperNOVA at Dalhousie University on April 1, 2020 in General Announcements

Our new underwater ROV, Polaris, has been busy exploring the depths of the Halifax harbour and providing us glimpses of Halifax beneath the surface. Polaris comes equipped with a camera, allowing you to take part in the expeditions under the water! We've put together a whole page dedicated to Polaris - there is a map of all the places we have explored underwater so far, as well as activities you can do at home with our videos of what Polaris sees on our YouTube channel

This interactivity allows to all to contribute and help us work out what we're seeing! Kids and adults alike can help us identify species recorded with our ROV by following the video along with the identification guides - then recording sightings and submitting them back to us here at SuperNOVA. Over time, a database of sightings will be compiled and used to educate students on comparing species in different habitats in the region!

We'd also like to give a shout out to Mike Roberts from OTN, based here at Dal, for giving us some driving lessons and pro tips on our ROV journey so far!

Be sure to follow along on Polaris' journeys and watch for our new and exciting videos featuring our coastal creatures - we'll be posting about our developments on all of our Social Media channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram)...
