Probationary Tenure Track FACULTY pOSITION      

Applications are invited for one probationary tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, 1.0 FTE, commencing July 1, 2019.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the BSW and/or MSW programs, both at the Halifax campus and online to students across Canada, and engage in relevant research activities and course development including a research component in affiliation with the Resilience Research Centre at Dalhousie University. The Resilience Research Centre studies resilience across cultures and contexts, emphasizing a systemic understanding of the individual and collective factors and processes that protect against risk and promote recovery, adaptation and transformation. The successful candidate will be expected to have and sustain a strong program of research related to the study of child, youth or adult populations who experience positive developmental outcomes despite exposure to significant adversity. A reduced teaching load is allocated to Probationary Tenure Track faculty normally for the first two years of their appointment in order to focus on the development of their research agenda. The incumbent in this position must be able to teach a variety of social work courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Both the BSW and MSW programs are guided by the School’s mission to create a socially just society.  We are concerned with issues of poverty, inequality, and social and political marginality, and seek to develop practitioners and scholars who are critical thinkers and are effective in advancing progressive change, whether through individual or community practice, or through policy and political engagement. The School is situated within the Faculty of Health and aligns itself with the Faculty’s five strategic directions which include engaging in transformational teaching and learning, growth of the research enterprise, fostering citizenship, cultivating partnerships and mobilizing supports for innovation.

Qualifications: A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in social work and a PhD in social work or related field are required, as well as demonstrated excellence or potential in teaching, research, and online delivery. Preference will be given to candidates with social work practice, social policy, and research experience, as well as a critical/clinical perspective. Post-doctoral or related university experience is an asset.
