POSITION(S):  We are searching for a part-time instructor to cover components of the courses PHAR 2010 Y and PHAR3010 X. The position will run in two terms, from September 2018 to June 2019 (late end date due to supplemental exams).

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION:  College of Pharmacy & Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Halifax Campus

PAY RATE:  In Accordance with CUPE Agreement Local 3912

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  The course involves teaching one lecture hour a week, on average. The instructor is to be available for approximately one hour per week outside class times for student consultation. (There are no tutorials.) The instructor reports to the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. These courses cover basic biostatistics for Pharmacy students. The topics are as follows:

In the fall term (Phar 3010X), the topics to be discussed include one and two way analysis of variance, testing of non-inferiority, superiority and equivalence hypotheses, meta-analysis, multiple linear regression, logistic regression, survival analysis (including KM estimator, Cox proportional hazards model, CMH test), basic bootstrap sampling/percentile method for CI, and calculation and use of propensity scores.

In the winter term (Phar 2010 Y), the topics to be discussed include inferences for two means and two proportions, permutation tests, basic probability (through Baye's theorem with an emphasis on diagnostic testing), inferences for contingency tables, inferences for relative risks and odds ratios, correlation and single variable linear regression, power and sample size calculation, and one way ANOVA.
A previous instructor of the course is willing to share his course materials and give direction regarding the content of the course.  .
QUALIFICATIONS:  The candidate must possess an appropriate Ph.D., be registered in an appropriate Ph.D. program, or possess a combination of M.Sc. degree in Mathematics or Statistics and previous teaching experience.
