Title: Job Posting: Curriculum Developer 
Description: Proposed Aboriginal Studies Minor: Curriculum Developer 

STIPEND: The weekly time commitment is negotiable; this position can be undertaken as a full-time (30 hour/week) or part-time assignment. 

Total remuneration for this position will be $15,000. Half of this stipend will be paid upon completion of the concept paper; the remaining remuneration will be provided upon completion of the full proposal (negotiable). Travel expenses for community and campus visits will be provided up to $5000. 

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The curriculum developer will work closely with the Aboriginal Studies Development Committee. In addition, the curriculum developer will: 

• Consult with leaders of the Nova Scotia Aboriginal community.
• Research Aboriginal/Indigenous/Native Studies at other institutions.
• Visit selected post-secondary institutions to meet faculty and students and determine best practices.
• Consult with relevant members of the senior Dalhousie University administration. 

The curriculum developer will be responsible for designing the interdisciplinary minor including: 

• Identifying pre-existing Dalhousie classes which could be included in the minor as core or elective classes.
• Identifying gaps in current course offerings and proposing new core and/or elective courses which should be developed as well as a prioritized timeline for course development.
• Working with the development committee to design the curriculum for any new core or prerequisite courses which should be available before the minor is launched.
• Exploring the viability of experiential learning as either a core or elective component of the minor.
• Working with the registrar’s office to begin the development of a microsite devoted to Aboriginal Studies at Dalhousie.
• Working with the development committee to prepare a concept paper for the new interdisciplinary minor and presenting this concept paper to the participating faculties, the Interim Academic Programs Sub-Committee and to SAPRC.
• Working with the development committee to prepare a full proposal for the new interdisciplinary minor and presenting this proposal to the participating faculties, the Interim Academic Programs Sub-Committee and to SAPRC. 

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about Aboriginal issues and will have connections with the Mi’kmaq community. Excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to consult with interdisciplinary groups are essential. An understanding of Aboriginal ways of learning and a master’s degree in a relevant discipline are desirable.
