Faculty of Dentistry hosts its yearly Pumpkin Carving Contest

Posted by Faculty of Dentistry on October 31, 2012 in Community Highlights

Today, Dalhousie Dentistry will get back into the Halloween spirit with its 3rd annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. Faculty of Dentistry alumni, faculty, staff and students will take part this festive fall event, which has quickly become an anticipated annual tradition.

“It’s so wonderful to see the creative creations that the members of our faculty family come up with each year,” says Dentistry Dean Dr. Tom Boran. “The first year, one of the teams carved my likeness into a pumpkin. My wife could hardly tell the difference!”

Over the past two years, more than 500 attendees have stopped by to view and vote for their favourite pumpkins. The Dental Lab was voted the champion of the inaugural competition in 2010 on the strength of their elaborate two-story pumpkin house. The student from the DDS Class of 2014 who created 2010’s “Boran pumpkin” emerged as last year’s victor, with a rotating homage to the Faculty of Dentistry’s 2012 Centennial celebrations – featuring a detailed rendering of Dalhousie’s Forrest Building.

All members of the Dalhousie community are invited to stop by the first floor lobby of the Dentistry Building (5981 University Avenue) from 12:00 until 3:00 pm to vote for their favourite carvings. Those who are not able to attend in person are invited to vote online once the competition opens at noon. (link: https://surveys.dal.ca/opinio/s?s=16478)
