– Universities announce their 2023 Schulich Leaders, winning $120,000 or $100,000 scholarships for undergraduate study –
Wednesday, July 26, 2023 (HALIFAX, N.S.) –– Six Dalhousie university students have been named recipients of Canada’s most coveted undergraduate science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) scholarships - the Schulich Leader Scholarship. Each year, one hundred Schulich Scholarships are awarded to entrepreneurial-minded high school graduates enrolling in a STEM program at 20 partner universities across Canada.
Half of the awarded scholarships are valued at $120,000 for engineering scholarships, with the other half valued at $100,000 for science and math scholarships. Every high school in Canada can nominate one graduating student each year to apply for the scholarship. Out of a pool of more than 300,000 potential high school candidates across Canada, 1,500 students were nominated, with a total of 100 scholarships awarded.
Recipients of this prestigious scholarship who will attend Dalhousie University this fall are:
John Michal Brown is a recipient of the $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Lockview High School in Fall River, Nova Scotia, Brown will be entering the Faculty of Engineering this fall. Brown was selected for their outstanding achievements and core requirements for the award.
Matthew Gentleman is a recipient of the $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Citadel High in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gentleman will be entering the Faculty of Engineering this fall. Gentleman was selected for their outstanding achievements and core requirements for the award.
Liam Legge is a recipient of the $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of O’Donel High School in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, Legge will be entering the Faculty of Engineering this fall. Legge was selected for their outstanding achievements and core requirements for the award.
Saul Hafting is a recipient of the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Annapolis West Education Centre in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Hafting will be entering the Faculty of Computer Science this fall. Hafting was selected for their outstanding achievements and core requirements for the award.
Xander Brown is a recipient of the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of École Secondaire du Sommet in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Brown will be entering the Faculty of Computer Science this fall. Brown was selected for their outstanding achievements and core requirements for the award.
Layla Owens is a recipient of the $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship. A graduate of Charles P. Allen High School in Bedford, Nova Scotia, Owens will be entering the Faculty of Science this fall. Owens was selected for their outstanding achievements and core requirements for the award.
