Graduate Program Courses (test page)

Graduate courses in the Department of Physics and Atmospheric Science deepen your understanding of foundational and emerging topics in physics and medical physics, while supporting your development as an independent researcher. Students enroll in one of two graduate programs:

  • Physics (PHYC): Includes research areas such as materials physics, biophysics, atmospheric science and more
  • Medical Physics (MEDP): Offers clinically oriented research in medical imaging and radiation oncology physics

Course selection is made in consultation with your supervisor and Supervisory Committee:

  • MSc students normally complete three 3-credit (one term) graduate courses
  • PhD students normally complete an additional three 3-credit (one term) graduate courses

Students often supplement their program with graduate courses from other departments, including Chemistry, Oceanography, Mathematics and Statistics, and Computer Science.

You can review scheduling in the Academic Timetable

All graduate students also complete the seminar course in their discipline and are expected to attend and participate in departmental seminars.

Physics Graduate Courses (PHYC)

The following courses are offered regularly and are suitable for graduate students in the Physics program. Typical term offerings are noted. The Atmospheric Science courses are also taken by students in the Diploma in Meteorology, under separate course numbers.
