On September 1, 2017, Céo Gaudet, Senior Policy Analyst with Environment and Climate Change Canada, joined the School for Resource and Environmental Studies for a two-year term as a Public Servant in Residence.

While here, Gaudet will conduct research and develop a graduate-level course on measuring the sustainable progress of societies. "I'm looking forward to working closely with SRES and other Dal faculty and staff to provide students with the richest learning and personal experience possible," he says.

Gaudet will also act as a liaison between Dalhousie and the Government of Canada. "I'll be helping students and faculty understand the federal government context and how to connect with the Government of Canada, whether in terms of research, interesting projects or career opportunities," he says. "A professional, non-partisan public service is one of any nation's most important assets, and it is a resource that needs to be constantly renewed.”

In his 30-year career as a federal public servant, Gaudet has worked at the Department of Finance on various tax reform exercises and financial regulation, and spent a year in Finance Minister Paul Martin`s political office as his departmental assistant. At the Privy Council Office, he provided policy analysis and advice on changes to the employment insurance system and Canada's Skills and Learning Agenda. While at Environment and Climate Change Canada, Gaudet participated in numerous projects related to environmental economics, including Statistics Canada’s Climate and Climate Change Indicators, the UN Experimental Ecosystem Accounts and Smart Prosperity’s project on environmentally adjusted productivity measures. He was also Canada's delegate to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's Working Party on Biodiversity, Water and Ecosystems.

"He brings deep experiences in policy analysis and development at federal and international levels. All of us at the School will benefit through our daily interactions with Céo."
