A team of graduate students from Dalhousie University’s School of Public Administration took second place at the prestigious 2014 IPAC National Student Policy Case Competition.
This annual event, sponsored by the Institute of Public Administration of Canada, pits teams of graduate students in the field of public administration and public policy from across Canada against one another in the analysis of a critical public policy issue case study and development of recommendations.
This year’s event was hosted by the University of Toronto and saw 12 teams competing from the following schools:
- University of Toronto
- Dalhousie University
- Queen’s University
- Carleton University
- University of Calgary
- Université Laval
- University of Ottawa
- Simon Fraser University
- Glendon College (York University)
- Ryerson University
- York University
- Johnson-Shoyama School, Universities of Regina and Saskatchewan
The highlight of the competition was the Lightning Round which saw Dalhousie and the University of Toronto, the top two teams emerging from the preliminary round of competition, go head-to-head with an emergency briefing on a very sensitive and pressing issue for the Prime Minister and his top advisors after only 60 minutes of preparation time. The two briefing sessions were intense and extremely realistic.
