Study in Ecuador or Ghana
International Development Studies (IDST) at Trent offers unique year abroad programs that provide students the opportunity to spend a full academic year in either Ecuador or Ghana. IDST Year Abroad Programs are part of the IDST curriculum, and combine university course work in a developing country context with valuable hands-on experience through a community placement. Students receive full year course credit, all transferable to Dalhousie.
- Based in Accra, Ghana’s capital in the South and Tamale, in the Northern Region
- Sept.- December:
- partake in classes offered by Ghanaian academics and professionals
- participate in field trips
- live with a Ghanaian host family
- Jan.- April: undertake a twelve week placement with a development or community-based organisation
- Based in Quito, the country's vibrant capital city located in the high sierra
- Learn Spanish and/or Kichwa – first year Spanish required
- Sept.-December:
- partake in classes offered by Ecuadorian-based academics and professionals
- participate in field trips
- live with an Ecuadorian host family
- Jan.- April: undertake a ten to twelve week placement with a development or community-based organisation
