Research area one: nanophotonics

Integration in the nanoscale combining electrical, magnetic, and optical functions in a single semiconductor enables implementation of new systems with performance and footprint not achievable with other technologies.

Novel concepts of nanoscale devices operating at a single-photon level are investigated here with application targets in telecommunications, biomedical engineering and in sensing. The objective is to develop an integrated technology platform where these novel concepts can be quickly turned into real-world applications, followed by viable commercial products.

Trainees in this research area will work and learn the whole cycle of development, from design to implementation.
