Graduate Program Pre‑Application (test page)
Thank you for your interest in graduate studies with the Department of Physics and Atmospheric Science at Dalhousie University. We welcome applications from talented students across Canada and around the world who are eager to pursue advanced research in physics and atmospheric science.
Before you can be formally admitted, it’s essential to connect with a potential thesis supervisor whose work aligns with your academic goals. To begin this process, we encourage you to explore the research areas described in our Research Prospectus [pdf] and then complete the pre-application form below. This helps us assess your background and identify supervisors who may be a good fit.
As part of the form, please upload a single PDF file that includes your curriculum vitae (résumé) and transcripts for all completed and in-progress degrees. Incomplete submissions, including those missing transcripts, will not be reviewed.
Minimum Academic Requirement: A GPA of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.3 scale) is normally expected for consideration by our department. The Faculty of Graduate Studies minimum is 3.0, but most successful applicants exceed this.
Important Dates:
- Pre-applications are not reviewed during the summer (May 1–August 31) due to limited availability.
- Formal application deadlines vary by admission term and applicant status — see Dalhousie’s application deadlines for details.
After submitting your pre-application, we encourage you to reach out to prospective supervisors directly. Contact information can be found in the Research Prospectus [pdf].
Once a supervisor agrees to support your application, you will be invited to submit a formal application to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
We’re excited to hear from you and learn more about your interests — this is the first step toward joining a collaborative and research-intensive graduate program in one of Canada’s most dynamic physics departments.
