In the event of a suspected lapse of academic integrity in a course without a TA:

Role of Instructor

  • If uncertain,
    • Consult with Academic Integrity Officer (AIO) for clarification about allegation
    • Consult with Academic Integrity Administrator for clarification about process
  • If proceeding with an allegation, assemble the evidence
  • Complete the Suspected Lapse of Academic Integrity Form [DOC - 63 kB] within 10 working days of becoming aware of the suspected lapse
  • Scan and email the complete allegation package to the Academic Integrity Administrator

  • Respond to emails to set up meeting date/times
  • Attend Academic Integrity meeting(s) in FoM
  • If necessary, attend Senate Disciplinary Committee (SDC) hearing

In the event of a suspected lapse of academic integrity in a course with a TA:

Role of TA

Role of Instructor

  • Advise course instructor immediately of suspected AI lapses
  • Provide specific information about suspected lapses
  • Respond to TA concerns
  • Evaluate evidence provided by TA
 
  • Consult with Academic Integrity Officer (AIO) for clarification about allegation
  • Consult with Academic Integrity Administrator for clarification about process
 
  • If proceeding with the allegation, assemble the evidence
 
 
  • Scan and email the complete allegation package to the Academic Integrity Administrator

  • Respond to emails to set up meeting date/times
 
  • Attend Academic Integrity meeting(s) in FoM
 
  • If necessary, attend Senate Disciplinary Committee (SDC) hearing

 

Submission of Academic Integrity allegation

  • Assemble and scan all documents relevant to the suspected lapse
  • Submit the entire package by email to the Academic Integrity Coordinator – Jennifer Ziobrowski (jennifer.ziobrowski@dal.ca)
  • Bring hardcopy documents, or a laptop, to the scheduled meeting.

DO:

  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Inform the student (if you wish) that a possible lapse in academic integrity is being investigated, but refrain from discussing the matter directly
  • Be prepared to meet informally with the AIO to discuss the Suspected Lapse of Academic Integrity; should a more formal process be required, you may be called to meet with the AIO, Dalhousie Student Advocacy Service and the student. If the penalty is significant, you may have to attend a meeting of the Senate Disciplinary Committee.

PLEASE NOTE: The Registrar's Office will log a grade of PENDING for any student for whom an academic integrity issue remains unresolved at the time the final grades are reported.

DO NOT:

  • Log a final grade for the student on the course until you have heard from the Academic Integrity Coordinator that the academic integrity process has concluded. (At that time, provide the Registrar's Office with a revised final grade, using the Grade Change Form.)
  • Issue sanctions or penalties directly or independently of the Academic Integrity Officer
  • Engage in commentary regarding lapses of Academic Integrity
