Dr. Storr is currently completing her term as Dean of the Faculty of Nursing at UNB. She began her studies in the Master of Nursing program, offered via distance by the Dalhousie School of Nursing, in New Brunswick. Her studies at Dalhousie led her to complete a PhD in Nursing at the University of Edinburgh, in Scotland.

Research focus
She focused her research on the experience of fathers of breastfed babies. The combination of Gail’s nursing education and practice experience led her career in many rewarding directions. Dr. Storr has been funded for her research into breastfeeding by both federal and provincial governments and developed the first breastfeeding clinic in New Brunswick.

Leader in policy making
She has led a multidisciplinary committee that supported New Brunswick to be the first province to formally adopt the Baby-Friendly Initiative as government policy to encourage successful breastfeeding.

Awarded for leadership
Dr. Storr has received a leadership award for women’s health from the Atlantic Center for Excellence in Women’s Health and an award from the Breastfeeding Committee of Canada for “Outstanding Leadership in Protecting, Promoting and Supporting Breastfeeding”.

Labour relations
Dr. Storr has demonstrated leadership in labour relations. She has been recognized by the Canadian Association of University Teachers with an award for labour relations work locally and nationally. She has served as the first female chief negotiator at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) and has also served on the provincial industrial labour relations board.
