Zoe Leger is a jazz and CCM vocalist, pianist, composer, arranger and educator. Zoe has performed across Canada and the United Kingdom as a band leader, soloist and chorister in jazz and contemporary classical ensembles. Zoe's academic research and teaching has focused on the development of well-rounded musicians, particularly work that empowers singers to be dynamic arrangers, songwriters and producers of music. Her most recent post-secondary teaching has included songwriting, advanced jazz literature and cross-appointments in Women and Gender Studies, examining the cultural and musical significance of women in contemporary pop music.
Zoe has been an in-demand voice teacher in the Atlantic region for fifteen years, focusing on CCM pedagogy, self-accompaniment for singers and performance mindset coaching for amateur, post-secondary and professional singers. Zoe has also taught numerous small vocal ensembles and specializes in coaching ensembles to arrange their own music in a self-directed model of learning and performance.
As a composer and arranger, Zoe has received funding from Arts Nova Scotia to compose chamber jazz music, has composed and arranged several commissions for professional and semi-professional choral ensembles, and was nominated for the 2017 ECMA Jazz Recording of the Year for her debut album, The Girl From Yesterday.
Zoe is a passionate educator, believing each musician has a story to tell and a voice worth hearing.
