Creative Activities (short paragraph):

Mark Morton has established himself as a dynamic percussionist with great versatility, having performed with numerous ensembles and collaborated with a bevy of Canadian contemporary classical musicians. He was also a founding member of Architek Percussion, a percussion quartet based in Montreal with whom he toured Europe, parts of the USA and across Canada. Mark was a finalist in the 2015 OSM Manulife Competition and was featured in 2016 as part of CBC Music’s “30 hot classical musicians under 30”.

Mark holds a Master of Music from McGill University, where he studied orchestral and chamber percussion with Aiyun Huang and Fabrice Marandola. During his time at McGill, Mark developed an affinity for the music of John Cage and the use of non-traditional and novelty instruments in percussion writing. Mark also holds a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Dalhousie University.

In 2018, Mark relocated back to Halifax as a member of the Stadacona Band of the Royal Canadian Navy and enjoys performing as a freelancer with a variety of ensembles in the area, including Symphony Nova Scotia.
