Harpist Karen Rokos began her harp studies in San Diego, California. After just two years of study, she auditioned for the internationally acclaimed San Diego Youth Symphony and performed with them for four years. She continued with Marjorie Call at the University of Redlands where she was awarded membership in Pi Kappa Lambda. Karen completed her formative studies with internationally renowned harpist Susann McDonald at Indiana University, earning her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Harp Performance and graduating with distinction.

Studies with Miss McDonald included a pedagogy course, and Karen took classes in child development and learning with music education specialist Dr. Mary Goetze.

Karen became the first Harp Instructor at the Portland Conservatory of Music in 1997, a position she gave up to move to Nova Scotia in 1999. She opened her private studio that year, and one of her students became the first person from Nova Scotia to be accepted into a University harp faculty.
