Minor in Film Studies

Film—it reflects and influences who we are, it predicts what we might become. Whether created to entertain, to educate, or as art or experimental, film alters and expands our perception of reality.

You’ll examine film as the primary storytelling medium of our age. You’ll learn to think critically about cinema in its historical, theoretical, and cultural contexts, and to appreciate and watch this exciting visual medium with eyes wide open.

At Dalhousie, Film Studies is interdisciplinary, with courses offered across departments at Dal and the University of King's College. It's also inter-university, allowing you to take classes at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) University, Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU), and Saint Mary’s University (SMU). Please consult the Academic Calendar for more detailed information, or the Halifax Interuniversity Film Studies Minor website.
