Global Affairs Canada has launched a call for students from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) wishing to study or conduct research in Canada. The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) will provide scholarships in 2020-2021 for study or research in fields that are aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Features of these new scholarships include the following:

• Awards are available for undergraduate* and graduate level students to undertake study or research at a public Canadian university or affiliated research institute.
• Awards will be made in the amount of $10,200 (for undergraduate or graduate studies of 4 months/one academic term); $12,700 (for graduate research of 5-6 months); or $15,900 (for undergraduate studies of 8 months/two academic terms).
• Proposed programs of study/research must demonstrate links to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.  As part of the application, students must submit a letter of intent outlining how their chosen field of study or research contributes to the 2030 Agenda, and how they will apply their learning to help combat poverty and narrow the development gap in the ASEAN region. 
• Students must be citizens of one of the following ASEAN countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam.

*Awards are offered to both undergraduate and graduate students. However, please note that in order to bring an undergraduate student to Dalhousie under the program, there must be a formal exchange agreement already in place between Dalhousie and the student’s home institution. For graduate students and faculty members, it is desirable (but not mandatory) that such exchange agreements be in place. For a list of Dalhousie’s existing exchange agreements, please visit the International Centre’s website.

Please note that foreign candidates cannot apply directly for these awards. Any Dalhousie faculty member who is interested in applying to the SEED to bring a student to Dalhousie under his/her supervision must apply on behalf of that student. All Dalhousie applications to the SEED will be facilitated by International Research & Development (IR&D) in the Office of Research Services. Any faculty member interested in applying is asked to contact the International Research Administrator, for more information and support in preparing an application via Dalhousie’s institutional account on the online application portal.
