Saving Lives at Birth Initiative

Posted by Danielle Andres on January 15, 2018 in Research Funding

A request for applications has been issued for Round 8 of Saving Lives at Birth, an initiative supported by Grand Challenges Canada in partnership with USAid, the Gates Foundation, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Korea

International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the UK Department for International Development.

The initiative seeks innovative prevention and treatment approaches for pregnant women and newborns in poor, hard-to-reach communities around the time of childbirth. It seeks to identify and develop transformative approaches that integrate new technologies, better service delivery models and improved "demand side" innovations that empower pregnant women and their families to practice healthy behaviors and be aware of and access health care during pregnancy, childbirth and the early postnatal period, especially the first two days after birth.

The initiative anticipates awarding both seed and “validation” grants (valued at up to $500,000 and lasting up to 2 years) as well as transition-to-scale grants (valued at up to $1M and lasting up to 2 years).

More information, including links to the guidelines and application forms, can be found here.

Any Dalhousie faculty member who is interested in this call is asked to contact the International Research Facilitator (jennifer.morawiecki@dal.ca), for further information and support in preparing an application.

Deadline: 28 February 2018
