Dalhousie University and the Nova Scotia Government Employees’ Union (NSGEU) Local 77 have scheduled conciliation dates for March 25 and 26. The parties have been in negotiations since September 2020, but they have not been able to reach an agreement and a conciliator has been appointed.
Conciliation is a normal part of the bargaining process. The University remains optimistic that an agreement can be achieved through conciliation. There are conciliation Q&As available on this site.
As part of the University’s proposal, pension reform is one of the main items. Specifically, the University is seeking the integration of the recent Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) enhancement that will provide a more affordable and sustainable pension plan in the future.
Local 77 represents approximately 850 administrative and technical support staff at Dalhousie.
