Know your neighbour ‑ Karyn Hemsworth

Karyn Hemsworth is the Student Success Coordinator for the Faculty of Engineering. Her focus is on helping students find the connections they need to achieve success in Dalhousie’s Engineering program. Karyn joined the Faculty of Engineering and the DPMG in the Fall of 2014 as part of a pilot project and was made a permanent member of the team in the Summer of 2015. 

Karyn works closely with the members of the Diploma in Engineering Student Society (DES) to keep connected to student needs and has implemented various initiatives such as Early Alert System, a Peer Mentorship Program and Supplemental Instruction. She has also worked to strengthen connections between the Faculty of Engineering and Student Services, the International Centre, and the Centre for Learning and Teaching. 

Karyn holds a Masters of Public Administration (MPA’12) from Dalhousie’s School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (Hons’06) from Mount Saint Vincent University. She has two daughters and has been a coach for Halifax County United Soccer Club for many years. When she is not on the soccer field, she enjoys camping at Kejimkujik National Park and Historic Site, where she and her family help to protect Blandings Turtle nests. She lives in the Timberlea area with her husband Glen, cat, Pinot Noir and dachshund, Peter.
