FIRST LEGO League

Imhotep's Legacy Academy's FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Program is a robotics program designed to get junior high school students of African descent, between the ages of 9-14 years old, excited about science and technology. It teaches students the value of working together and of solving problems.

Each year, FLL teams have the opportunity to compete in regional and provincial competitions. The challenge for each year has a central theme based on a real-world scientific topic. (For example, the theme for 2021-22 is Cargo Connect. See the results of the FLL Provincial Competition.) Teams are judged on a challenge that has three parts:

  1. Project - teams identify a problem that needs solving, research it, develop an innovative solution, and share their findings
  2. Robot Game - teams design and build a robot using the LEGO Mindstorms robot set. Teams program the robot to perform specific tasks on a thematic playing surface.
  3. Core Values - teams demonstrate the eight FLL Core Values throughout the competition: Respect, Find Solutions, Learn Together, Sportsmanship, Shared Experience, Gracious Professionalism, Fun

Imhotep's Legacy Academy has participated in FLL competitions since 2011 and over the years, our teams have received awards for "Presentation", "Mechanical Design, "Technical Design", and "Spirit and Enthusiasm" at the regional and provincial levels.
