Marine Gene Probe Lab

Located on the sixth floor of the Biology Department, the MGPL serves two main purposes.
The first is to provide excellent laboratory facilities and expertise to enable the application of DNA techniques to research in ecology, conservation biology, fisheries, and aquaculture.

The second purpose is to train students and scientists in the use of molecular tools and techniques.

Each year, numerous students, post-docs and Biology Department staff conduct research in the MGPL on a wide range of marine, aquatic and terrestrial species.

The research questions and methods of MGPL researches are discussed extensively in the course BIOL/MARI 3042, Molecular Ecology.
