Aphasia Communication Group Program

The Aphasia Communication Group is a treatment program designed for adults who have aphasia as a result of a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or other neurological condition.

This group program accepts self-referrals as well as referrals from speech-language pathologists in Nova Scotia and PEI. All group participants have had previous individual speech-language therapy.

The group focuses on maintaining communication strategies learned in individual therapy, developing new communication strategies, stimulating all communication modalities (i.e., speaking, listening, reading and writing), and serving as a support system.

What to expect at a group session?

The sessions are run by a certified speech-language pathologist, and by graduate students from the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD).

The activities are designed for improving and maintaining communication skills through participation in supported conversation. Themes are chosen in collaboration with group members.
