Clare Murray Fooshee Prize competition
The Department of English invites students to submit original, creative writing pieces to the annual Clare Murray Fooshee Prize competition. Clare Murray Fooshee was a Dalhousie student and great lover of poetry. Upon her death in 1952, her husband Malcolm Fooshee, and many of her friends, donated funds to the English Department at Dalhousie for a poetry competition to be held each year in memory of Clare. In 2018 the competition was expanded to include prizes for short fiction. All undergraduate students at Dalhousie and King’s are eligible and encouraged to submit their creative writing. Learn about the competition here. Submission deadline is February 29, 2024.
The International Development Education and Awareness Society (IDEAS) invites you to participate in a hybrid (virtual and in-person) panel discussion at Dalhousie University. The event is free and open to the public. Snacks will be provided.
We have chosen 4-5 panelists to highlight the intersectional nature of housing issues in Halifax and in the Global South, drawing connections between issues we face here in the HRM, and struggles experienced on a global scale. The event will involve both a group-guided discussion and an open Q&A session to prompt ideas for ways forward.
The discussion, organized in partnership with the Dalhousie International Development Studies department and the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation will address the heightened vulnerability of marginalized communities to becoming housing insecure. Through discussion, we hope to build a comprehensive understanding of these complex issues as well as develop solutions to move forward in actionable and meaningful ways.
The event will be in room 1016 in the Rowe Management Building on Friday, February 9th from 12-2pm.
