If you happened to be anywhere near downtown Truro on June 28th, you couldn’t miss the vibrant sea of color, laughter, music and one particularly rainbow flag-donned tractor making its way through the streets. That wagon was full of Aggies and was rolling with #Pride as part of the 2025 Truro Pride Parade.

“The Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture prides itself on its strong commitment to inclusivity and sense of community,” said Dean Dr. Heather Bruce.  “This commitment is never more apparent than at events like Pride.”

At the helm of the float was none other than Rocky the Ram, dancing and waving with boundless energy that could only be fueled by equal parts of school spirit and glitter. The tractor pulled a hay bale-lined trailer, brimming with staff, faculty, and their families, all decked out in every color of the rainbow.

More fellow Aggies marched alongside, filling the streets with bubbles, ribbons, Pride flags, and a soundtrack of joyful music that had bystanders dancing along on the sidewalks. Parade-goers brought their best dance moves, biggest smiles, and even their dogs!

Love Is the Legacy We Grow

The float wasn’t just there to make a colorful impression; it was there to make a statement. In times when the world feels uncertain, one truth remains: love wins. At the Faculty of Agriculture, more than crops are nurtured, so too is a future rooted in kindness, inclusion and fierce allyship.

“As civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer originally quoted, ‘No one is free until everyone is free,’” said Community Education Coordinator Jessica Fogarty. When we show up, we show up for everyone. Statement making activities like the Pride Parade give us the chance to walk that talk and dance that dance,” she added.

A Field of Possibility

Participation in the parade was a team effort, from those who helped decorate the float, to the folks who passed out rainbow Rocky stickers, to the people behind the scenes making sure the tractor had gas.

“We’re grateful to Truro Pride for hosting such a beautiful celebration and for giving us all a chance to be exactly who we are, and to cheer each other on every step (or float ride) of the way,” added Jessica.

Here’s to leading with love. Let’s keep growing together.
