Launch of SSHRC’s new strategic plan

Posted by Jaq-Lin Larder on October 12, 2020 in Announcements

Message from Ted Hewitt, SSHRC President

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to share with you the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s new strategic plan: Momentum 2020-2022.

This plan will enable us to stay on course as we navigate through uncertain times and guide our efforts to address new global challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and Canada’s recovery in a post-pandemic world.

Building on SSHRC’s strong record of achievement, Momentum 2020-2022 sets five main objectives for the next two years: enhancing Canada’s global leadership in social sciences and humanities research; growing Canada’s research talent; strengthening the research enterprise in Canada; contributing innovative solutions to global challenges and opportunities; and building a nimble, forward-looking organization.

Each of these objectives is supported by a set of strategies that will help us sustain the momentum of our ongoing programs and projects, respond rapidly to evolving crises, and maximize the overall impact of the research we support. These strategies will enable us to better serve Canadian researchers and enhance the contributions research makes to Canada’s economy, communities, cultural fabric and overall quality of life. Key among these are increasing Canada’s talent pool of researchers and advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in Canada’s universities and research institutions.

These strategies will enable us to better serve Canadian researchers and enhance the contributions research makes to Canada’s economy, communities, cultural fabric and overall quality of life.

I invite you to read Momentum 2020-2022, available on our website.

We thank you for your continued collaboration. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions or comments about SSHRC’s new strategic plan.

Sincerely,

Ted Hewitt
SSHRC President
