Introducing the Dalhousie SSHRC Advisory Review Committee

Posted by Suman Jha on July 18, 2016 in Announcements

Dear Colleagues,

On June 7th, 2016, the Associate/ Assistant Deans Research in the Faculties of Management, Law, and Arts and Social Sciences met to discuss potential cross-faculty initiatives to support research in the Social Sciences and Humanities at Dalhousie University. The discussion culminated in the proposal for the establishment of a joint SSHRC Advisory Review Committee (SSHARC).  To increase the support available to researchers in the Social Science and Humanities, Dalhousie University will establish a new process for the review of SSHRC applications. This will be in addition to existing processes. The new process will be supported by SSHARC, whose mandate will be to mimic a SSHRC adjudication panel and provide feedback to SSHRC applicants in advance of the competition. The proposal summary for SSHARC is available here (pdf).

The process will begin with a pilot phase starting in July 2016. SSHARC will be composed of Dalhousie researchers who have served on SSHRC adjudication panels in the past. In the pilot phase, the focus will be on the SSHRC Insight Grant (IG) program. Researchers will have the opportunity to submit their SSHRC IG applications to SSHARC by August 1st, 2016. SSHARC will be mindful of internal deadlines at the Faculty level when providing feedback.

Please indicate your intention to submit your application to the review process by July 25th, 2016 to Sara.Lavender@dal.ca. Questions about the process can be directed to an Associate Dean Research in Management, Arts and Social Sciences or Law.

With kind regards,

Martha Crago
Vice President Research
