Dalhousie's Talent Pathways Program
Talent Pathways, the university's internal temporary staffing program, is designed to assist with staffing needs while contributing towards Dalhousie’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility.
The goal of the program is to reduce barriers to employment for job applicants who identify as members of equity-deserving groups and support pillar two, Inclusive Excellence, of the university's Strategic Plan, The Third Century Promise. Dalhousie defines equity-deserving groups as Indigenous persons (especially Mi’kmaq), persons with a disability, racialized persons, including persons of Black/African descent (especially African Nova Scotians), women, and persons belonging to the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
Candidates placed in temporary positions gain opportunities to further develop skills and build relationships. Our recruitment metrics show that starting in a temporary position at Dal increases the chance of securing an ongoing position.Candidates placed in temporary positions gain opportunities to further develop skills and build relationships. Talent Pathways candidates are recruited through several venues including a dedicated posting on our Careers site, by direct engagement with community groups and employment services, and through job fairs. Referrals from members of the Dalhousie community are highly encouraged.
How to Apply
To join the Talent Pathways program, candidates are asked to:
- upload a resume and cover letter via the dedicated posting
- complete the self-identification workforce questionnaire in the application
- respond to several questions about skills and availability
If accommodation is required, candidates are encouraged to reach out to email@example.com or call (902) 800-1763.
The Talent Pathways Advisor reviews applications and meets with qualified candidates for an informal interview before a placement is initiated to better understand the candidate’s goals, skills, and experience. References are contacted by the Advisor prior to placement.
When a temporary opportunity becomes available, the Talent Pathways Advisor will review the candidate roster for candidates that match the requirements of the temporary position. Hiring managers are then connected with qualified candidates to conduct a job-specific interview.
If you are a hiring manager interested in this service, please review the hiring for Temporary Positions page [login required] for details on position requirements and how to get started.
Talent Pathways is recommended as the initial source for temporary employment at Dalhousie. Should there be no suitable candidates for your role available in the Talent Pathways pool, the Advisor will work with you to find alternative solutions. Please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org.
