Being part of this program allows me to work with thinkers who are on the very leading edge of these issues – to find solutions that help me make more effective decisions, both inside and outside the office. -- R. Tandory, Senior Information Officer, Ontario Ministry of Revenue

Best of best worlds

A senior information officer with Ontario’s Ministry of Revenue, Roger Tandory has spent the past decade helping large organizations increase internal collaboration and to become better at managing information and knowledge.

A change management and strategic communication specialist with deep knowledge of information accessibility, security, integration and governance, Roger encountered our program during an information management conference. It didn’t take him long to realize our degree offered exactly what he needed to drive his development in the right direction.

Explains Roger: “Once I started reading about the program, I had one of those eureka moments. I started to see a much bigger picture with regard to the role I was working in – and realized also how I needed to develop professionally.

“Very quickly, I could see the program offered a perfect fit for my professional development needs.

Big picture

“Since starting the program in January 2010, I’ve completed four classes. Each one has plugged me into – and provided me with – a big picture perspective of all of the current big issues relating to how well organizations manage information, knowledge and change, and how effectively they are at increasing internal collaboration.”

Real world

“In addition, the learning is also very relevant and applicable on a day-to-day workplace level.”

“So, for example, the material often relates to real world issues such as how you can help your employer improve its approach to information management in a way that allows it to add more value to clients or capture more market share. Alternatively, you find yourself examining the best approaches to privacy and access to information, or how to make the most of social media – all challenges that information managers face regularly in the workplace.

“Being part of this program allows me to work with thinkers who are on the very leading edge of these issues – to find solutions that help me make more effective decisions, both inside and outside the office.

Flexible

“Meanwhile, the program’s blend of online distance learning and face-to-face ‘intensives’ gives you a great deal of flexibility–while still offering you plenty of opportunities to come together with your peers and professors, to get their input and ideas.

“Essentially, this blended learning model offers you the best of both worlds. You can take your development and your career where you need to – without having to give up your job, take a sabbatical or sacrifice too much of your family life.

Change management

“While we’re very good at using technology and processes to achieve change, we’re often less aware of the way the change impacts people.

“This program has taught me how to balance all three – the technology, the processes and the people. In this respect, it’s particularly suitable for anyone who needs to holistically implement change across a large organization.
