Courses

Each year, the English Department offers between 10 to 12 half-credit graduate seminars in a wide variety of literary periods and genres, taught or team-taught by faculty specialists in those areas.

Full-time MA students take three seminars in the Fall and three in the Winter, and ENGL 8000: Thesis Prospectus. PhD students complete three in the Fall and three in the Winter, but may defer up to two seminars until the second year of the program. All graduate students must take ENGL 8500: Professionalization in the first year of the program.

Seminar offerings vary each year depending on faculty teaching, research interests, and enrollments. For detailed, up-to-date information visit the Graduate Seminars page on the department site or see the Academic Timetable.
