RDCSI VTECH Seminar Series: "Realities of War: Children Civilians and the Impacts of Conflict"

On July 5th and July 27th The Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative will be hosting two, free public lectures titled "Realities of War: Children Civilians and the Impacts of Conflict" at the Halifax Public Libraries Central.

This speaker series brings renowned international peace & security experts to Halifax to discuss innovative and ground breaking approaches to protecting children and civilians in conflict zones.

The first lecture on July 5th will feature Roméo Dallaire, founder of The Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative and Jon Somer, an an expert on the engagement of armed non-state actors in the protection of children.

Their talk will compare the roles that states and armed groups have to play in respecting international humanitarian norms and supporting child protection and be moderated by Shelly Whitman, Executive Director of The Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative.

The second lecture on July 27th will feature Major General Patrick Cammaert (Ret'd). Since his retirement from the Royal Netherland Marine Corps in 2007, Major General Patrick Cammaert (Ret’d) has been a leading advocate on issues of leadership in crisis circumstances, peacekeeping, and the protection of civilians. He’s participated in UN missions in Lebanon, Sudan, Haiti, Liberia, DRC, and Chad and led the UN Board of Inquiry for the violence in South Sudan in 2016. Join us as he addresses the realities of contemporary peacekeeping, and explores the way ahead.  Q&A to follow.
