Canadian Frailty Network Summer Student Awardee
Congratulations to CFN Summer Student Awardee Niousha Alizadehsaravi & Supervisor, Dr. Caitlin McArthur. CFN Summer Student Awards programs provide undergrads with interdisciplinary experience, while developing their knowledge for caring for an aging population.
Successful MSc Defence
Congratulations to Stephanie Shewchuk who successfully defended her MSc work. With Stephanie’s lab-based work examining the effect of aerobic exercise on cognitive function shelved owing to the pandemic, she pivoted to complete a scoping review that looked at the effect of high intensity aerobic exercise on executive function. Steph’s findings indicate that there is wide variability in the literature from a methodological perspective, and little evidence to suggest there is an effect. Kudos to you Stephanie on the work and a great defense! (~Supervisor:Dr. Shaun Boe)

Dr. Caitlin McArthur has received the The ESCEO-AgNovos Healthcare Young Investigator Award which is given to young investigators for their contributions in the field of bone and mineral research. It is awarded each year at the World Congress of Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases hosted by the International Osteoporosis Foundation. Working with data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging, Dr. McArthur investigated the prevalence of osteoporosis and fracture prevention medication use for community dwelling older adults. The results of this study indicate a missed opportunity for preventing fractures, particularly for younger individuals and men where osteoporosis is often undiagnosed. |
