Summer 2025 Director's Message

Celebrating Milestones

Derek-Directors-Message-Summer-2025

Celebrations are great!

Isn't it a wonderful time of the year to be in Atlantic Canada? I hope this newsletter finds everyone well, enjoying time with friends and family. We're offering up some great stories and celebrations in this summer edition of our newsletter, so I hope you'll take a moment to enjoy and celebrate with us.

As we alluded to in our spring newsletter, we are celebrating two notable faculty members who have reached celebration-worthy milestones in their academic careers. Please read on to join in our celebration of Dr. Marie Earl as she retires from the School of Physiotherapy, having made significant contributions to our community through education, research, and service over the past 31 years. We also extend our congratulations to Dr. Cheryl Hubley-Kozey, who has been appointed Professor Emeritus in the School of Physiotherapy, following her retirement in 2022.

The vision of the School of Physiotherapy is to lead regionally, nationally and internationally in collaborative, inclusive physiotherapy education, research, and service that advances health, policy, and practice. I want to acknowledge the significant contributions made by all our School of Physiotherapy employees, as well as the hours our clinical community partners dedicate to supporting our laboratory and practice education experiences. Physiotherapy in Atlantic Canada is stronger because of you! This is immediately recognizable during convocation, where students, friends and family congregate to celebrate yet another milestone, the awarding of an MScPT. Please make a point of pursuing the Convocation and Awards photo gallery to share in the recent celebrations and accolades of our graduates. Speaking of celebrating our graduates. Our first graduating class in the School of Physiotherapy occurred in 1965, 60 years ago. Again, a celebration of a significant milestone. If you would like to reminisce a little, please read the Director's message in the Spring 2015 issue of the PT Matters newsletter (Dr. Anne Fenety, School of Physiotherapy, Director).

We are preparing for yet another School year to begin, where 62 students are set to join the School and work towards their career goals of becoming physiotherapists. Yet another milestone and another reason for celebration.

Wherever this newsletter lands for you, please take a moment to celebrate!
Best wishes,
Derek
