Clinical Education Impact
by Amélie Therrien, Class of 2021
In recent weeks, I have had the chance to work alongside Lisa Hall at Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
During this clinical placement as part of the inpatient rehabilitation department of the hospital, I have had the chance to work with patients that have suffered from strokes, spinal cord injuries, amputations, traumatic brain injuries, fractures, post-operative orthopedic surgeries, cancer patients, as well as patients recovering from symptoms of COVID-19. Throughout this experience, I have appreciated collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to provide evidence-based care in line with the up-to-date latest rehabilitation clinical guidelines and practice considerations for patients with acute COVID-19 symptoms as well as post-COVID-19 patients.
This opportunity has furthered my interest in providing quality care through an innovative and collaborative approach which I hope to continue to learn as a new graduate physiotherapist. My clinical instructor, Lisa Hall, provided me with enriched learning experiences and gave me the perfect amount of guidance in my new environment. At the end of this placement, I realize that I love working in a hospital more than I could have hoped for and truly see the importance of physiotherapy across the lifespan.
