MScPT Program Update
By Dr. Marie Earl | Acting Associate Director
The Fall Term of 2021 is proving to be a busy and interesting time in the MScPT program.
As we continue with the adaptations to the curriculum timelines implemented due to COVID-19, we are working with 3 cohorts of students in the MScPT program. We are reflecting on the achievements of our senior students who, due to the COVID-19 adaptations to our course offerings, have been completing their final fieldwork courses this term; we look forward to celebrating their convocation in the Spring of 2022, and wish them every success as they begin the next steps in their journey. Our Year 1 and 2 cohorts are back on campus with us; we’re in the "new normal", with a combination of in-person and online classes, it is safe to say that we have a renewed appreciation for being able to work and study together, in-person! The end-of-term is fast approaching, and it won’t be long before our Year 1 students begin their first fieldwork course (PHYT5500) in December. Our Year 2 students return to fieldwork courses in the winter term. We are inspired by and grateful for the engagement and expertise of our clinical partners, the Clinical Instructors and Co-ordinators who make it possible to offer these courses to our students.
Behind the scenes, our faculty, staff and students are working on a number of projects related to the program. Our admissions committee is already preparing to admit our new cohort of students next fall. Our appointments committee is working on the faculty and instructor needs that are emerging with retirements and other factors.
The Curriculum Committee is busy reviewing the courses from 2020-21, and making plans for 2022 and beyond; we are getting back on track with our ‘Revised Curriculum Plan’, and the current expectation is that our Year 1 cohort will be completing the program according to that timeline. PEAC has updated the accreditation standards, with a much needed focus on addressing justice, equity, inclusion and diversity, and we are mapping our program to these standards as we continue to monitor the learning objectives, activities and outcomes of the revisions that we have made to the curriculum. Watch for updates on these projects in the coming months, and for ways to get involved in the planning and delivery of the program.
