Gerk Finke
Gerd Finke was a leading researcher in Operations Research. He received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from the University of Kiel, West Germany, in 1969. He then joined the Faculty of Engineering of the Technical University of Nova Scotia, Halifax, Canada, where he served in succession as an assistant professor, associate professor and professor in the Departments of Applied Mathematics and Industrial Engineering until 1988. Then he joined as a professor in Operations Research the Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics at the University Joseph Fourier in Grenoble, France, where he was responsible for the graduate studies in OR (1988-2006). He initiated scientific vocations of many students working in Operations Research in France and worldwide. He had an international reputation and friends all over the world.
