I would recommend Dal to other students in Ontario because the engineering program is very diverse and allows for each student to learn more about their areas of interest. As well, the sexton campus is beautiful and has many great study spots for groups or individuals.

Eamon Quill

I'd recommend Dal! There are a lot of other students from out of province, and nobody will give you any trouble over it. I think it's a great idea to get out of your local province and see more of our awesome country and also to really get to experience living by yourself.

Megan Lamka

I absolutely would recommend Dal! I loved the experience of living independently in a new setting, discovering a new part of the country's culture, and meeting so many new people from around the world.

1)      What made you choose Dalhousie University for your studies?

I chose Dal because the east coast is beautiful and Halifax is the perfect university city. I wanted to be far enough away from home that I couldn’t drive home and could really experience the university-away-from-home experience.

2)      How did Dalhousie's Engineering programs and opportunities compare to other universities you considered?

I was very interested that Dal had a co-op option for engineering which is very important for me as I knew that I would need this to figure out what field I wanted to work in. I also liked that Dal was bigger than some of the other schools in Nova Scotia.

3)      What do you enjoy most about studying and living in Halifax?

I love how accessible the city is while still being able to live in a real neighbourhood. Being able to walk downtown in 20 minutes but also live in a house surrounded by real families and other students seems to be unique to going to school at Dal.

4)      How has your experience as a Dalhousie student met or exceeded your expectations?

Dal has really great support systems like the health clinic, academic advisors, and mental health supports that exceeded my expectations. I have also met some amazing people from all over Canada that I never would have thought would be my roommates and close classmates.

5)      Would you recommend Dalhousie to other students in Ontario? Why or why not?

I would recommend Dal to other students in Ontario because the engineering program is very diverse and allows for each student to learn more about their areas of interest. As well, the sexton campus is beautiful and has many great study spots for groups or individuals.

6)      Do you have any memorable experiences or highlights from your time at Dalhousie that you'd like to share?

I have had so much fun with Dal’s club ultimate frisbee team over the time that I have been here. I have been to many away tournaments with the team but the most fun was the tournament that we hosted at our turf where my friends got to come and watch me play.

7)      What advice would you give to Ontario students considering Dalhousie?

I would say to not be afraid to take the jump to come out here. It’s a beautiful place and a great location for university. I could not recommend it more.

1)      What made you choose Dalhousie University for your studies?

When I chose Dalhousie, I was looking at schools that were out of province. I also applied to the University of Alberta. I figured that Dal was a pretty good engineering school and I wanted to go to a school with a sailing team, so here I am.

2)      How did Dalhousie's Engineering programs and opportunities compare to other universities you considered?

Dalhousie has a pretty solid engineering program. I'd say it was pretty comparable to the other schools I looked at. It ranked pretty highly in the lists of engineering schools in Canada. What I liked was the co-op program. Some schools, like when I looked at McMaster, made coop much harder to get into and get a placement with. I liked that at Dal it was not only encouraged, but also make accessible to as many students as possible.

3)      What do you enjoy most about studying and living in Halifax?

I like Halifax because I find it has a lot of character in general. There are a lot of smaller neighbourhood areas like Gottigen street that always have something going on and a great sense of community. I like how everything is pretty easy to get to via walking or bus, and of course I like living by the sea.

4)      How has your experience as a Dalhousie student met or exceeded your expectations?

A great thing about the Dalhousie experience is that it feels like there's always some group hosting an event. There's usually something free to head over and do.

5)      Would you recommend Dalhousie to other students in Ontario? Why or why not?

I'd recommend Dal to students from out of province. There are a lot of other students from out of province, and nobody will give you any trouble over it. I think it's a great idea to get out of your local province and see more of our awesome country and also to really get to experience living by yourself.

6)      Do you have any memorable experiences or highlights from your time at Dalhousie that you'd like to share?

The weather in Nova Scotia can be pretty wild, and heading out to stand on the waterfront in a hurricane is a pretty cool and pretty exclusive experience. Another one would be with the sailing team. Getting to race in a collegiate regatta is really awesome and definitely not something that a lot of schools in Canada have.

7)      What advice would you give to Ontario students considering Dalhousie?

For any other Ontario students who are thinking of coming out east, take the plunge! Just be aware that you might not be back home until Christmas. If you can, apply to get into residence (it's guaranteed for first year students coming in from high school!). It makes it so much easier to make friends and get into the rhythm of university life!

1) How did Dalhousie's Engineering programs and opportunities compare to other universities you considered?

The idea that Dalhousie Engineering students have their own campus really appealed to me during University registration. I liked the of thought being surrounded by others who are studying the same program as me.

2) What do you enjoy most about studying and living in Halifax?

I really enjoy how walkable the city it. Places such as the grocery store, the mall, public parks, and community events are all in easy access whether walking or taking transit.

3) Would you recommend Dalhousie to other students in Ontario? Why or why not?

I absolutely would! I loved the experience of living independently in a new setting, discovering a new part of the country's culture, and meeting so many new people from around the world.
