Q&A with FASS Grad: Amelia Dinh

Posted by Communications Manager on October 23, 2026 in News

Amelia Dinh, originally from Hanoi, Vietnam, graduated in Fall 2026 with a BA with Honours in International Development Studies, a Minor in Management and a Certificate in Intercultural Communication. She shares some of her fond memories from her Dal experience, advice for new students, and what she's been doing since finishing her studies at Dal.

What’s next for you?

I've been volunteering as co-lead of the Student and Emerging Professional programs for the 32nd Canadian Conference on Global Health (CCGH 2026). As part of this role, I also co-authored the conference steering committee's pre-conference opinion piece, published in PLOS Global Public Health. The piece frames Canada's role in global health as both a choice and a responsibility, and calls on the government and the global health community to follow through on their commitments to health equity.

Please share a favorite experience or fond memory from your time as a student in Dal’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

One of my fondest memories is joining a student-led campus tour during an open house, where I met my best friend, Maryam. From that first day, we encouraged and supported each other through every part of our time at Dalhousie.

If you could give one piece of advice to an incoming first-year student, what would it be?

Don't be afraid to start volunteering early, especially with organizations connected to your degree or the career you hope to pursue. By graduation, you'll have four years of relevant experience behind you, along with a network of connections that can open doors later on.
