ENGL 3062 American Literature 1865‑1914

This course will survey major and selected minor writers from the post Civil War to the advent of World War I. Major figures include Mark Twain, Henry James, Edith Warton, Stephen Crane. Along the way, we'll discuss why we, as scholars, still use wars and all their hegemonic implications to define literary "periodicity."
