The Pre-Announcement for the forthcoming 2023 competition is now live. The 2023 cycle will be launched in collaboration with the Fonds de recherche du Québec –Santé, Michael Smith Health Research BC, Mitacs, the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation, and the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation.
This year, the Health System Impact program is expanding to include an Early Career Researcher stream that aims to support diverse and impact-oriented career pathways for health system embedded researchers.
Overall, the Health System Impact award options for embedded researchers are now as follows:
- Doctoral (PhD): $50,000 per year for up to 1 year. The health system organization contributes 30% ($15,000) of this award value.
- Postdoctoral: $155,000 total for 2 years ($77,500 per annum). The health system organization contributes 30% ($46,500, or $23,250 per annum) of this award value.
- (New!) Early Career: $400,000 total for 4 years ($100,000 per annum). In addition, 1-1 matching (or $100,000 per annum) in partner contributions from the health system organization and academic institution is required (the amount paid by each is not prescribed and will be determined independently of CIHR). Of the $100,000 total partner contribution, at least $50,000 must be a cash contribution towards the applicant’s salary and/or research and professional development allowance. The remaining amount may include research-related supports that directly benefit the applicant’s research program.
